In Spanish, can you say Usted eres for you are? or do you have to say Usted es?

If you say "usted eres" in the tu form, you are saying "you (formal) are " or in a literal sense "you (formal) is." but if you say "usted es" you are saying "they (formal) are," or literally "they (formal) is." is this how the rule works, or do you always say "usted es"??
