Are plasma tvs getting cheaper?

Two years ago my family and I got a plasma 50' pioneer kuro for our basement, and I think it cost around $2000. Then, last week the tv was broke by a playstation move controller. So then just yesterday we were looking at new tvs. The plasma we were looking at was about equal quality (51', 1080p, 600hz). It was a samsung and it only cost about $900. Are plasmas really getting that much cheaper, or were we looking at a crappy tv?
