I was attacked by an Aligator?

I was at the river bank, and suddenly an Aligator pounced out of the river and tried to bite my back leg, I then suddenly turned around flipping the Aligator with my claw, so the Aligator would land on it's back and I would be able to scratch it's soft stomach, but the Aligator quickly recovered then retreated into the water.
